First, here's a peak into the art room! I'm also VERY excited about my new carpet and bookshelf! These were purchased through my Donor's Choose project (see post below), which was fully funded in July by some amazing people! Now, let's see what's been happening in the art room... The First Day of Art: After introducing myself, going over rules and assigning seats, class was half over. First grade was given a pair of sunglasses to design and draw in the lenses. They were prompted to think back to something fun they did over the summer, or to think ahead toward something they are excited about in the school year. It was a fun little activity to see students' interests and their drawing skills. Kindergarten was given an empty frame to fill in with anything they like to draw. I found this template on Pinterest and it was a perfect first day activity- short and sweet, and they got to take it home! Project 1: KandinskyBoth grades looked at the art of Wassily Kandinsky, our master Artist of the Month, to inspire our first projects. We talked about line, color, and shape and explored different media. These projects were both great- students loved being able to get into so many different materials... crayons, oil pastels, colored pencils, markers, and even paint with kindergarten! And the best part was seeing students have a successful first project to hook them for the year!
Stay tuned. We are on new projects this week- guided drawings :)
