After finishing up our art show projects it was time to get into some 3D work. We talked about sculpture and the endless possibilities of media, but started simply with paper. First grade was challenged to find ways to make the paper pop off the page. We also watched some of the old school Lorax since it was Dr. Seuss's birthday week... And of course we tied it in by talking about recycling/repurposing our paper scraps! Kinders have been learning about 3D shapes in math, so we talked about Form in art, and constructed some paper cubes- which was definitely "academically challenging"... The folding of the flaps and gluing it just right was a little much for some of them in one class. But it was more about the learning experience of turning something flat to 3D, so I wasn't too concerned about the products. We also had a day of exploring sculpture through centers... cardboard construction, play-doh, and building blocks
